Faculty Millette

Andrea Millette earned her BFA from the Savannah College of Art & Design in 1994, and her MFA in Photography from the Academy of Art University. Prior to her time teaching at Antonelli, Andrea worked as a digital assistant and digital retoucher in a commercial photography studio, and was a staff photographer and writer for a weekly Cincinnati newspaper. In 1998 she became a full time photography Instructor in the Photography Department, and was promoted to Department Chair in 2005. Throughout her time at Antonelli, Andrea has been teaching traditional photography, digital imaging, and considers her specialties the History of Photography and Alternative Imaging techniques.

Beyond the classroom, she creates and exhibits her fine art photography in regional galleries and showcases. A long-time soccer player – having played for the Savannah College of Art and Design’s team – she is a big fan of the English Premier League team Arsenal, and is a season ticket holder for FC Cincinnati. When she can, she also is an avid motorcycle and vintage scooter rider, having ridden in rallies in England, Belgium and France with her international vintage club.

Antonelli College photography chair places third in Soho Photo Krappy Kamera® XIII contest

CINCINNATI – Andrea Millette’s photo Dixon’s Flower Shop placed third of 1,300 entries in the Soho Photo Krappy Kamera® XIII International Juried Competition. It will join approximately 50 other pieces in a framed exhibition at the Soho Photo Gallery in New York City from Mar. 1 – Apr. 2, 2011. This was Millette’s first-time entering the competition.

Dixon’s Flower Shop is one of 32 images included in her “American Facades” collection. A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, Millette is currently working toward her Master of Fine Arts through the Academy of Art University, San Francisco. “American Facades” is the focal point of her thesis project.

Millette has taught photography at Antonelli College since 1998 and in 2004 was promoted as the department chair.

Phillip S. Block and Steve Rooney of the International Center for Photography served as the jurors for the competition. Block is the Deputy Director for Programs while Rooney is the Director for Finance and Administration. Successful entries created an “extraordinary photograph produced by a camera with a lousy lense.”Award distinction included three top-place prizes, three Honorable Mentions and the Holga Inspire Award.

The Soho Photo Gallery is the oldest artist-run photography gallery in New York City. It was established in 1971 by a group of photojournalists and avant garde photographers who were seeking an alternative gallery space in which to exhibit their work.
