COMMUNITY HELP NEEDED TO HELP COMBAT BLOOD SHORTAGES
October 18, 2013
West Chester, Ohio --- Antonelli College will be hosting a community blood drive with Hoxworth Blood Center at its West Chester location, 9100 West Chester Towne Center Drive, West Chester, Ohio 45069. The blood drive bus will be parked outside the front of the building in the parking lot on Tuesday, November 12th from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
The need for blood both locally and nationally remains constant, and donations are needed to offset blood shortages. People can donate a pint of blood every 56 days. The requirements to give blood are:
Age: Be at least 17 years old
16 year olds may donate with parental consent
Weight: Minimum of 110 pounds
Identification: Must provide photo I.D.
Food: Eat a meal within four hours before donating
The blood that is collected can be split into three components to save lives for trauma victims, surgeries, cancer treatment, burn victims, liver disease treatment, sickle cell anemia, massive hemorrhaging, and as well for many other medical conditions. Each unit of blood that is donated can work to save three lives. The process from start to finish takes roughly 30 minutes. It’s important to drink plenty of fluid and eat a good meal prior to donating.
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati was founded in 1938 and proudly serves 31 hospitals in 17 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects over 90,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. At least 400 products are essential each day to keep up with the demands of tri-state hospitals and their patients.
